Bandaje Falls Trek

Belthangady, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka2 Days / 2 Nights8 – 30ChallengingJune to February — monsoon (June–Sept) brings the waterfall to life at its most powerful; post-monsoon (Oct–Feb) offers clear trails.

About this trip

The Bandaje Falls trek is one of the most exhilarating monsoon treks near Bangalore. Starting from Mundaje village, the trail winds through dense forest with towering trees that create natural tunnels overhead, filtering sunlight onto the ground below. Along the way, you reach the ancient Ballalarayana Durga Fort perched atop a hill with breathtaking panoramic views. The centrepiece is the magnificent Bandaje Arbi waterfall — cascading water crashing over cliffs and plunging into a lush gorge below, a sight that will leave you speechless. Day 2 includes visits to Kodage Waterfall, a scenic tea estate and the historic Beluru Temple before heading back to Bangalore. At 700 m altitude and approximately 9–12 km of trekking, this is a perfect weekend adventure combining nature, history and raw Western Ghats beauty.

Dos & Don'ts

Do
  • Wear shoes with good grip — the trail is muddy and slippery, especially during monsoon
  • Carry at least 2 litres of water — no refill points mid-trail
  • Carry a waterproof backpack — the trail passes through wet forest and near waterfalls
  • Apply mosquito repellent — dense forest canopy means insects
  • Follow the trek guide closely — trail markings can be minimal
  • Start early to make the most of daylight for the trek and return
Don't
  • Don't swim too close to the waterfall base — currents can be strong
  • Don't wander off the trail — dense forest can be disorienting
  • Don't litter — leave the forest exactly as you found it
  • Avoid trekking in extremely heavy rain — the guide will make safety calls
  • Don't attempt the trek alone — stay with the group at all times
