About this trip
Kurinjal, standing at 1,755 m in the Kudremukha National Park buffer zone, rewards trekkers with sweeping panoramas of the Western Ghats and a trail that passes through untouched shola forests, open grassland ridges and crystal-clear mountain streams. An 18 km round trip that is challenging but deeply satisfying — and remains refreshingly off the tourist radar compared to more crowded peaks in the region.

Itinerary
- Day 1Basecamp & Acclimatisation
Reach Balegal base by morning (overnight travel from Bengaluru). Rest, briefing session, short warm-up walk through the shola forest fringe. Trek leader covers trail protocols. Campfire dinner and early night.
- Day 2Kurinjal Peak Summit & Return
4:30 AM start. Trek to Kurinjal Peak (1,755 m) via the ridge trail — untouched shola forest, open grassland ridges and mountain streams. Summit panorama of the entire Ghats massif. Descend to base, packed lunch, depart.

Dos & Don'ts
- Build trek fitness before the trip — 18 km round trip on demanding ridge terrain
- Carry original government photo ID — mandatory for forest entry
- Wear ankle-support waterproof trekking boots — rocky and root-laden trail
- Start the summit push by 4:30 AM to beat cloud cover
- Follow the guide's pace strictly on the ridge — sheer drops possible
- Stay hydrated — carry minimum 3 L water capacity
- Don't carry non-biodegradable packaging inside the forest
- Avoid monsoon season (June–August) — trail is dangerously slippery
- No shouting or music on the trail — active wildlife zone
- Don't wander off the ridge trail — sheer drops possible
- Don't attempt without reasonable trek fitness
- No smoking inside the forest reserve
